Our Itinerary
• Let our shuttle meet you at Glacier International Airport near Kalispell within designated time frames.
• Enjoy spectacular mountain scenery as we drive to Many Glacier Hotel on the famous Going to the Sun Road. This is the only road that bisects the park, and it offers spectacular views of mountain peaks, Bird Woman Falls, the Weeping Wall, the Garden Wall, Goose Island, and other stunning natural features. Along the way, we’ll stop at Logan Pass for pictures at the Continental Divide, the most elevated part of the Rocky Mountain range running from Alaska and the Yukon to Mexico. Look for mountain goats and bighorn sheep at the Pass, which was traveled by Native Americans decades ago.
• Enjoy dinner at the Ptarmigan Dining Room.
• Lodging: Many Glacier Hotel. • Hike 10 miles on the Iceberg Lake trail (with a shorter 5-mile option). This trail skirts the western flank of 8,770-foot Mount Henkel and gently climbs through patches of aspen, lodge pole pines, and meadows filled with alpine wildflowers. You’ll love the beautiful vistas, mountainscapes, and pretty Ptarmigan Falls, where we’ll lunch. Those who want can then head back to the lodge for some free time. Those wanting a longer hike will continue on through beautiful wildflowers and prime habitat for grizzlies, mountain goats, and bighorn sheep to Iceberg Lake, which is filled with floating icebergs and surrounded on three sides by cliffs towering up to 3,000 feet.
• Enjoy an informal dinner at the Italian Gardens Ristorante.
• Lodging: Many Glacier Hotel.
• Take a 1/2-mile early-morning jaunt to look for moose at Fishercap Lake.
• We’ll enjoy 8 miles of hiking on the fabulous Grinnell Glacier trail, climbing switchbacks on the southern flank of Mount Grinnell, enjoying multicolored rock strata, alpine meadows filled with bear grass and wildflowers, Grinnell Lake’s turquoise waters, and the tumbling waterfall that feeds it. Option for a 10-mile hike.
• Dinner at wonderful Two Sisters restaurant.
• Lodging: Many Glacier Hotel. • Free day to rest, kayak, horseback ride, and enjoy the many other great things to do here.
• Savor the view from our hotel deck of moonlit Grinnell Point rising majestically from Swiftcurrent Lake.
• Lodging: Many Glacier Hotel. • Admire the stunning turquoise waters of 9.5-mile-long St. Mary’s Lake as we hike 5 miles through sun-dappled forest to Baring Falls, St. Mary’s Falls, and Virginia Falls. Look for water ousals dipping in the falls’ blue-green pools.
• After our hike, we’ll drive back on Going-To-The-Sun Road, giving you another opportunity to savor its unforgettable scenery.
• Savor great food and the ambience of Lake McDonald Lodge’s dining hall.
• Lodging at Lake McDonald Cabins, on the shores of 10-mile-long Lake McDonald. • Enjoy breakfast at Eddie’s in Apgar, shopping in West Glacier, and lunch on your own.
• Opt for great whitewater rafting we’ve arranged with experienced guides down the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, listed by Moon Handbook as “one thing you should do while you’re in the area.” Designated a Wild and Scenic River, Middle Fork offers a safe enough raft ride for children.
• Relax with a casual dinner at the Grille near Lake McDonald Lodge.
• Watch the sun set over the mountains and Lake McDonald from the hotel patio’s rocking chairs.
• Lodging at Lake McDonald Cabins. • Enjoy this great last 4.7-mile hike together. Visit Trail of the Cedars, the easternmost rain forest in the US with 500-year-old cedars measuring 10-15 feet in diameter. Peer down into Avalanche Gorge, where swirling turquoise waters sculpt argillite, moss-covered canyons.
• Then set off to Avalanche Lake, rimmed on three sides by steep cliffs and waterfalls tumbling from Sperry Glacier.
• Enjoy an optional evening cruise on Lake McDonald, the Park’s largest lake.
• Lodging at Lake McDonald Cabins. • Let us shuttle you to Glacier International Airport for your trip home.
